First measure the artwork in question. In case of a framed picture or a painting, the frame has to be included in the measurement. For the landscape designs, the ideal size of the lights should be between ½ to 1/3 rd of the size of the piece. As for portraits it should be almost half the width of the portrait. 12” to 18” — 6” or more

Wall mounted picture lights can be plug-in designs or hard-wired. In case of plug-ins, the cord hangs down the wall or has to be concealed behind the shelving or furniture while the hard no visible cords or wires and install directly into an electrical junction box.
